In partnership with the Salvation Army, the store gives away hundreds of fans every year

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Although summer won’t officially be here for a few weeks, it’s already time to start thinking about staying cool.

There are plenty of people in Lincoln who can’t afford air conditioning and rely on fans to stay cool.

So the Salvation Army and Lincoln’s Westlake Ace Hardware stores are teaming up for their 10th annual fan drive.

Each year, Ace asks customers to consider rounding up their purchases to donate to the fundraiser.

Over the past decade he has raised over $26,000 and every year he gives away hundreds of fans.

Westlake Ace general manager Michael Clark said he loves giving back to the community, calling it one of his favorite parts of the job.

“I think it’s more important than ever, with costs rising everywhere, between fuel costs, heating and cooling costs, equipment costs,” he said. “This year is probably more important than ever.”

The drive runs through June 19 and can be found at all Ace Hardware stores in Lincoln.

Customers can round up their purchases but can also donate any amount of money to the fundraiser.

If customers can’t make it to a store, they can go to the Westlake Ace Hardware website to donate.
