Elden Ring may have performance issues on PC, but what about the original Game Boy?
Reddit user shin has posted WIP images of their OG Game Boy remake of FromSoftware’s hit action RPG. It most closely resembles The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, with top-down exploration of scrolling environments and a familiar sword attack, but also translates the Souls series’ essential dodging into a new perspective.

The Reddit clip features Shin’s take on the starting area of the Chapel of Anticipation, complete with tutorial posts and Erdtree pixel art, all awash in that creamy spinach color palette we all love. of Nintendo’s classic handheld.
The demo ends with a battle against a cute but menacing version of the Grafted Scion, Elden Ring’s initial “meant to lose” fight, followed by an utterly charming “YOU DIED” on-screen game.
Shin is streaming his development process on his Twitch channel, shintendoTV. They are using GB Studio 3.0 to create the project and have expressed a desire to at least flesh out their vision of Limgrave in that style, if not go further.
It reminds me of the stunning Game Boy Color mockup of Breath of the Wild created by Nintendo Wire in 2018, but unlike that demo, the Shin’s Elden Ring project will be fully playable on the original hardware or emulator when complete.
