Our laptops are essential in our daily lives. We use it for work and for our personal use. We rely on them to access information, do research and store files.
Laptops are used several times a day, for long hours. Thus, it is inevitable that our laptops will wear out due to excessive use.
How do we know when it’s time to upgrade our laptops to a newer and better model? Here are some signs that your trusty gadget is coming to an end and it’s time to buy a new one.

Power button not working
It’s the ultimate sign that you need a new laptop: you hit that power button, and absolutely nothing happens, it won’t turn on.
You can try some basic troubleshooting steps. You can plug in your laptop and then try to turn it back on. Make sure the cable is not loose. Assuming your laptop still won’t turn on after doing some basic troubleshooting yourself, you’ll need to take it to a repair shop or dealer.
With this, you have to weigh the pros and cons. First, how much will the repair cost? If it costs too much, better buy a new one instead of trying to run an old laptop. The new one will have new components that could last for years, as opposed to old repaired hardware that could eventually fail after a few weeks of use.
Bad battery life
Are you frustrated that your laptop battery life is not lasting as long as before? The maximum capacity a battery can hold decreases over time. When you first buy your laptop, the battery lasts for hours, but it slowly wears off. Eventually, you’ll end up with a laptop battery that won’t last more than 15 minutes. Worse still, you can’t use your laptop without plugging it into a power source. You can choose to replace the battery, but there are cases where the model’s battery is no longer available. What can you do? Just buy a new laptop.

Is your laptop getting hot after being used for a while? This may indicate that the fan is clogged with dust and dirt, preventing it from cooling your laptop. Additionally, laptops can develop heat-related issues as they age. Overheating can also occur due to age of internal components.
You can try using a can of compressed air to blow dust and dirt out of the vents or you can try taking it to the service center. But the best option is to invest in a new unit as overheating can lead to regular crashes.
Do you hear a click or squeak when you save or open files, or when you launch a program? It just indicates that the mechanical parts of your laptop are wearing out. This could eventually lead to a hard drive crash, so be sure to back up your files. It’s also your laptop’s way of telling you it needs a replacement.
Random freeze or crash
Have you found that you are in the middle of a job and then your file suddenly crashes or freezes? This may be due to the laptop overheating. But it could also be attributed to problems with the motherboard or the hard drive. You have the option of driving to the nearest service center to have the parts replaced, but this can be expensive. It may be more practical to get a new machine than to continue to keep repaired equipment.
Laptops are essential. They are like extensions of ourselves. Thus, we have to make sure that they work well all the time. So, if you’ve ever encountered any of the problems mentioned above, don’t hesitate – it’s a sign that you need to have a new one.
