Samsung Galaxy S23 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 tested by Geekbench

I don’t like this chip or this design.
First, the use of 4nm nodes is essentially a discounted 5nm node.
Second, A715 is a revised A710, so X3 is a revised X2 core.
Third, mixing too many cores leads to latency issues. It’s bad.
Lastly, it’s still an 8-core configuration when ARM upped it to 12 cores.

The device above will not be more efficient or more powerful than the QC 8g1+. It will only show improvements in theoretical or synthetic tests. Real-world performance will be equal. At least it won’t be as thirsty, hot and slow as the QC 8g1, QSD 888+ and QSD 888… all of which performed poorly alongside the much cheaper QSD 870.

As said before, expect late 2023 iPhones or early 2024 Android phones. That’s when we get a real node jump to the TSMC-3nm and a proper CPU upgrade to ARMv9 cores from 2nd generation with the Cortex-A730. Nuvia cores were supposed to be in the market like 2019-2020, they are no longer impressive. You won’t see them on phones as they target the laptop (ARM-book) segment, it might make an appearance on the large high-end/luxury tablet side.

Another anecdote: Microsoft’s roadmap provided for its next platform (“Windows 20”?) scheduled for 2024, which could still get the green light. So far Windows11 hasn’t been great and the pandemic has affected their progress with their roadmap.

Pathetic Samsung, continues to load the same phones with the same internals every year. 8gb ram booted with s10 wtf???

Anonymous, 4 hours agoWe know that Geekbench is designed for Apple silicon and antutu is designed for Android based processes… moreGeekbench was never designed for Apple. It was primarily an x86 benchmark.

Later (at version 3) it was ported to Android and iOS.

This is a huge improvement!

I’m glad I skipped the last two generations of phones.

I was expecting a Nuvia IP-based design that should rival Zen4/Raptor Lake/Apple A14, but even that amount of performance looks really great.

We know Geekbench is designed for apple silicon and antutu is designed for android based processor like qualcomm or mediatek.
a Qualcomm processor scoring less than an Apple bionic processor on Geekbench is reasonable, but if those numbers are legit, it’s really disappointing.

What I don’t understand is why this is a deal breaker for you, am I right to assume you would have a phone before 3 years old anyway? Plus, it’s not like a new operating system is really that important. Android 12 changed almost nothing on my V60, but voila, still perfectly fine and usable. No more usable than it was on Android 11, but no less either. Also, I encourage you to look at this from a business perspective. Sony’s mobile division has only 5,000 employees who release 4 phones a year with 2 years of updates. They also sell much less than Samsung because Samsung is heavily advertised. However, for the number of people there, they have released some great phones. They’re the only company to keep the microSD card slot and headphone jack in 2022. I don’t know if you were going to say something, but first let me point out that a microSD card takes about as much space than a SIM card in a phone, has no impact on waterproofing since a SIM card tray is already required, and can triple the amount of storage you have even if you opt for a 512GB Xperia. Storage fast enough to record at 4K 60FPS, and can easily handle watching videos or listening to locally stored music. Say what you will about how slow it is, but the fact is that it’s fast enough to do all the things you might need the extra storage for. As for the headphone jack… Well, good sound never gets old, and having a headphone jack doesn’t affect you at all. No one should specifically want a headphone jack on their phone, even if you prefer wireless it doesn’t hurt. Mini rant concluded, more towards people who don’t like this stuff than you ^

Better than having 5 OS versions, it makes the device slow like galaxy Y. Exactly what happens to iphone.

I know many old iPhone users who got tired of slow devices after so many updates.

By the way, I still haven’t received the fix for the bugs introduced with iOS14. Already on 15.6, still the same crap.
I wonder why it closes apps when 3 of them are open, while my phone doesn’t even with 100+ apps open.

iOS is even shittier than Android 12, which is the worst Android since Android 4.0

PhoneFreak45, 7 hours agoI don’t know until you have experience with all of them. Sony manufactures high quality handsets… more3 years of updates. Where and since when? It’s a miracle if you get 1 year from Sony, which is why I never even considered looking at one of them, let alone buying it. I would consider if it’s really 3 years now. But then, it is also a question of opportunity. Getting Android 13 when Android 14 is already out is like having no updates at all.

7 hours agoMany brands of garbage with poor software support.TROLLDETECTED

Man no brand is better. Just a quick question why is it good to have for example 5 OS updates if your hardware can’t keep up with your software.
After 5 years (in which 99% of people will exchange their device for a new one for a long time, half of them will have like the 3rd device at that time, they exchanged once every 2 years), so still a times after 5 years you end up with a device with the latest software but unable to run even most of the basic apps which will also be updated to the latest versions.

Just for example, in 2015 my Lenovo Vibeshot was a great phone from that era for $400 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and played my favorite game of clash of lords without bugs etc.
Nowadays running the same game on the same phone but updating to latest update september 2022 2022 wouldn’t allow me to even run the game not to mention battles will be impossible to perform due to improved graphics on the game compared to the same game of 2015. Lots of other improved too.
Even facebook is not the same as it was many years ago.
And believe me, most apps won’t work well or at all on older hardware.
That’s all I mean.
