Intel Arc A730M Powered Laptop Surfaces with $1200 Price

Machenike, a Chinese manufacturer, has started selling laptops equipped with Intel’s Arc Alchemist A730M discrete GPU. However, the key feature of Machenike’s Dawn Discovery Edition 2022 gaming system is Intel’s “big” ACM-G10 GPU (albeit in one of its lightweight configurations), as it’s the first laptop from industry to use Intel’s full-featured gaming GPU.

Machenike’s Dawn Discovery Edition 2022 is a 16-inch laptop that features a display with 2.5K resolution and 165Hz refresh rate, which puts a huge emphasis on positioning the device for the players. The laptop uses the 14-core Intel Core i7-12700H processor coupled with DDR5-4800 memory and M.2 SSD with PCIe 4.0 interface. The main feature of the PC is its Arc Alchemist A730M GPU which comes with 24 Xe-HPG units (3072 FP32 stream processors) paired with 12GB of 14 GT/s GDDR6 memory connected using a 192-bit interface.

Intel’s Arc Alchemist A730M discrete GPU is on a scaled-down version of the “big” ACM-G10 silicon, so it’s not the flagship mobile GPU meant to show off Intel’s best. Meanwhile, it is cheaper and less power-hungry than the high-end Arc Alchemist A770M graphics chip (4096 FP32 stream processor, 256-bit memory interface, 16GB GDDR6 SGRAM).

Highlights of Machenike’s Dawn Discovery Edition 2022 machine are a Wi-Fi 6/6E adapter, Thunderbolt 4 support and an 80Wh battery that charges to 90% in two hours.

When Intel announced that its first Arc Alchemist ‘DG2’ graphics processing units for laptops would be available in Q2 2022, the company meant the availability of both the “small” ACM-G11 GPU and the “big” GPUs ACM-G10 Bow Alchemist. Still, laptops with “small” Arc Alchemist GPUs are hard to come by in the US and Europe, while mobile PCs with “big” Arc Alchemist GPUs aren’t available anywhere. To this end, Machenike’s product launch (noted by video cardz) is indeed noteworthy because it means Intel’s “Big Arc” GPU is ready to ship, but to select PC makers and in a scaled-down variant.

Machenike’s Dawn Discovery Edition 2022 laptop price is a key aspect of the machine as it only costs ¥8,599 (~$1,273) to buy. While prices in China tend to be lower compared to prices in other countries, $1126 without VAT for a gaming laptop seems pretty affordable, especially considering we’re dealing with a reasonably advanced machine.
