As a journalist, I constantly run around with a laptop in my bag. Unfortunately, when I worry about the size of the laptop I’m running with, I also have to worry about sacrificing power for convenience. Luckily, with the HP Elite Dragonfly G2 Laptop, I don’t have to worry about that anymore.
This laptop is very small. I love it. The HP Elite Dragonfly G2 features a 13.3-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) touchscreen display and weighs less than 1kg, but still packs a punch with 16GB of RAM and an Intel Core i7-1185G7 processor 11th generation. The laptop runs on Intel Iris Xe Graphics, and let me tell you, it wasn’t all easy to figure out.
These are just specs for my little guy, personally. The HP Elite Dragonfly G2 Laptop is highly customizable! It took a bit of work to figure out exactly which model I had. The laptop can come with one of five different processors, four different storage capacities, and three different display options. Chances are if you need something specific from your laptop, the HP Elite Dragonfly G2 can make it happen.
However, with all these options, the price is high. HP’s website currently has two options listed, an Intel Core i5-1135G7 with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB PCIe NVMe TLC SSD for $2499.00 and one with an i5-1145G7 for $2749.00. You’re looking for a device that’s compact, with a touchscreen, a decent processor, and the ability to switch between laptop and tablet mode, so the price can be justified. But with the price going up from there, you could easily spend a small fortune on this laptop.

I was reluctant to go back to my usual laptop. The versatility of a laptop is truly ideal. Being able to use it to work at my desk, write on the couch, or put it back into tablet mode while I’m lying in bed watching Netflix really makes it an all-in-one device for me. I loved that the laptop charger is so small too, it beats the massive cords and blocks around work at home.
I found the laptop wouldn’t last me from morning to night, clearly, but it handled my entire workday when I was writing or answering emails. Watching Twitch and Netflix only lasted about 5 hours for me before I had to recharge. The HP Elite Dragonfly G2 can fast charge up to around 50% battery in around 30 minutes, which is a huge bonus. One downside is that the HP Long Life Battery isn’t customer replaceable, so if there are any issues down the road, you’ll need to have it serviced.
This device is best suited for productivity and simple media. Although the graphics are decent, you wouldn’t want to watch the latest blockbusters on the 13-inch display with Intel Iris(R) Xe Graphics. I’ll also note that I wouldn’t recommend this laptop for real gaming. I tried to jump in a few rounds of fortnite, just to see how the Dragonfly would fare. It was less than ideal, but that’s not what it was built for, so can’t complain. It ran games like underworld however, all is not lost.

The HP Elite Dragonfly G2 Laptop excels in what it was meant to be. Working, browsing, and binge-watching have been made comfortable and easy, with seamless switching between tablet mode and laptop mode. I found the device to work well in tablet mode, with the screen being very responsive. The laptop is compatible with the HP G3 Rechargeable Active Pen, but we couldn’t test the two together, so I can’t comment on how responsive it is to the stylus.
While it might not be my favorite for gaming, I loved listening to music on it. The HP Elite Dragonfly G2 comes with 4 stereo speakers made by Bang & Olufsen, which are renowned for their high-end audio devices. I don’t normally care about laptop audio, and usually bring my JBL Pulse 4 with me instead.
During my time with the HP Elite Dragonfly G2 Laptop, it was my main source of music at work or at home. The sound was so rich and full, and even though the laptop is small, the speakers pack a punch. After talking to a few people about the sound behind this laptop, they were really surprised when they heard the quality it produced. By far the best sound quality I’ve heard on any laptop.
I usually dread moving to a new laptop, hate being bothered with all of Microsoft’s setup, getting used to a new keyboard and layout, and just changing in general. With the HP Elite Dragonfly G2 Laptop I was dreading going back and I really love my current laptop!
I found this device so versatile, functional and easy to use that it may even have inspired me to adopt the laptop style in the future. If you’re looking for something compact, with great sound, and aren’t afraid to spend a pretty penny, the HP Elite Dragonfly G2 Laptop is the right choice.
