Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5

Part of buying an expensive laptop, or one of the best laptops, is the warranty. When you invest in a $1,000 device, you might wonder what happens if it fails and the problem isn’t your fault.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 is one such device. It starts at $3,000 (or nearly half that when it’s on sale), and different configurations quickly increase the price. So, does Lenovo offer a good warranty? It has a standard one-year limited warranty, and you can even extend it if you want.

Why the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2 has a good warranty

Like all Lenovo laptops and ThinkPads, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme is covered by a one-year limited warranty from the date shown on your original receipt, if purchased from Lenovo or a store approved. Lenovo details the warranty on its website.

Essentially, it covers any defects in materials or workmanship in your ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 under normal use. It does not cover anything of your own creation, such as dropping the laptop and breaking it. Under Lenovo’s terms, the warranty does not cover the following:

  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation
  • Loss or damage of your data by the device
  • All software programs, whether supplied with the product or installed later
  • Failure or damage resulting from misuse, abuse, accident, alteration, improper physical or operating environment, acts of God, power surges, improper maintenance, or use not in accordance with the product information.
  • Damage caused by unauthorized service provider
  • Failure or damage caused by any third-party product, including those that Lenovo may provide or integrate into the Lenovo Product at your request
  • Any technical or other assistance, such as assistance with practical questions and those concerning the configuration and installation of the product.
  • Products or parts whose identification label has been altered or whose identification label has been removed.

One year is fine, but you can also pay to extend it through Lenovo. The limited warranty can be extended up to five years, but only before the expiration of the base warranty. This warranty will give you service for a fixed term and at a fixed cost.

Additional warranty options for the Lenovo

If you want to go beyond Lenovo’s one-year limited warranty, the good news is you can. Lenovo offers different types of protection plans. There is an Accidental Damage Protection Plan, which covers some issues mentioned above that the Limited Hardware Warranty does not cover, such as spills, knocks, and structural failures. This plan can be added at purchase or at any time while you own your laptop. In addition, Lenovo also offers what is called “Premier Support”, where you can call Lenovo for hardware and software issues through a dedicated 1-800 phone number. Additional information about these plans can be found on Lenovo’s website.

So to back up and answer the original question, yes, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 has an excellent warranty, and there are options to extend it if you wish.
