Hacker jailbreaks Deere tractor live in front of cheering crowd
After the hackers briefly stopped hating John Deere, they’re back – this time jailbreaking a Deere tractor’s control unit live at the Defcon Hackers’ Conference in Las Vegas this weekend. “(T)he company itself is a trash can of information security worst practices, whose unpatched, misconfigured, and outdated tractors are a mine of vulnerabilities and unforced errors,” Cory Doctorow tweeted as part of this thread explaining how hackers exploit potential security weaknesses to break into Deere machines.
On Saturday, I sat in a crowded ballroom at Caesar’s Forum in Vegas and watched @sickcodes jailbreak a John Deere tractor’s control unit live, in front of a cheering audience @Defcon 30 attendees (and possibly a few undercover Deere executives who often attend Sickcodes conferences). 1/ pic.twitter.com/WHuMCFQLZy

The new partnership also improves communication between the OEM, dealer and customer, says Elevāt founder Adam Livesay in an interview with OEM Off-Highway. “It really improves the relationship between the OEM, their dealer network and the end customer.”

FieldIn COO: “You can’t automate everything in 1 year”
FieldIn COO and co-founder Iftach Birger is quite realistic in his assessment of the path to autonomy in this short interview with Ag Information Network. While FieldIn has been laying the groundwork for farm automation for years, Birger says autonomy won’t happen overnight. “We will be living in a mixed fleet world for the foreseeable future. Your entire fleet will not be autonomous. No matter what,” says Birger.
